The USS America was a conventionally powered 'Kitty Hawk' class aircraft carrier that served from 1965 to 1996. It is the only super-carrier ever to have visited NZ which occurred in November 1968 with one stop in Wellington-only as part of a goodwill visit associated with the New Zealand government's support for the United States during the Vietnam War.
