TitleSouvenir: Visit of Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke & Duchess of Cornwall & YorkPublisherD.I.C.Date 1901Place of originWellingtonDescription
A small souvenir booklet produced by the D.I.C. (the department store chain founded by Bendix Hallenstein) to both promote their stores and commemorate the successful royal visit of Prince George Frederick Ernest Albert and Princess Mary, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York.
The royal visit was significant to New Zealanders who were proud of their recent supporting of Britain in the Boer War and their advancements as a nation. Wellington streets were decorated with flags, buntings, and eleven themed arches for the royal procession. During their visit the Duke and Duchess laid foundation stones for both the New Zealand Railways Offices building and the eagerly-awaited Town Hall.
