Doug Roche's De Luxe Band

The 7-piece "De Luxe" band headed by Doug Roche ready to perform on stage. The band regularly played at both Empress Ballroom on Ghuznee Street and at Realm Ballroom in Hataitai though it is not known where this photograph was taken. On the extreme left is Ernie Osmond and in centre-back is pianist Doug Roche.

A portrait of King George VI hangs in the background above a cut-out of the word "victory". While there was a 'Victory Club' in Wellington, it is likely the word is instead a reference to the end of World War Two.
