Opening of the 1945 Victory Loan campaign on the steps of Parliament House.
The campaign opening was held on Monday the 14th of May, less than a week after the celebration of VE Day on the 9th. Despite the war having been officially won, it was still essential to raise funds for the rehabilitation of soldiers as well as affected countries in Europe.
Thousands gathered on the grounds of Parliament to hear acting Prime-Minister Walter Nash speak with the support of around 500 students who formed a choir for the occasion.
Film footage from the event has been digitsed by Archives New Zealand.
