Wooden two-storey dwelling and outhouses in Lyall Bay. The home belonged to Harry Miles Hayward and his wife Jessie Burne Hayward (née Luxford) who were among the settlers of the area. The photo was taken between 1895 (when Queens Drive was completed) and 1897 (when Hayward and Henry Duncan Crawford subdivided the Township of Maranui, adjacent to Queens Drive and along Lyall Bay). The sand dunes towards the beach have not yet been cleared for development.

The section was later sold to George Winder and then on to Hope Gibbons in 1914, who built the now heritage-listed property Ngaroma at 112 Queens Drive.
