A poster bill advertising the sale by auction of 27 housing 'lots' off Hobson Street, Thorndon in March 1899 by the land agents, MacDonald, Wilson & Co. This subdivision saw the creation of what was to become Hobson Crescent. The land was formerly part of the estate of Sir Charles Clifford (1813 - 1893), a politician and the first Speaker of the NZ House of Representatives. 

It is likely that this is the first survey plan which was later revised to create a smaller number of larger lots. The later plan can be seen here.
