Site for Lewisham Hospital development

Undeveloped land off Rintoul Street leased for the development of the Lewisham Hospital (later Calvary Hospital). The photographer is facing south-east from opposite Athletic Park, looking towards South Wellington School. 

South Wellington was a public school for primary-aged children that operated from 1896 to 1945. The main concrete block visible towards the left in this image was constructed in 1905 following a fire that destroyed earlier timber classrooms. That site is now occupied by South Wellington Intermediate School (SWIS).

The land originally leased by Lewisham Hospital was later purchased from the Wellington Tenths Trust by its successor, Wakefield Hospital.
