A poster bill advertising the lease of sections on "Watts Peninsula" (i.e. the Miramar Peninsular) totalling c. 2000 acres (c. 800 hectares). Then under the ownership of James Coutts Crawford (for whom Mt Crawford is named) who had acquired the land in 1839, these parcels of land were offered on a 40-year lease basis. Following the death of Crawford in 1889, these sections were gradually sold by his estate and were subdivided into smaller lots suitable for housing.
