Wellington's first trolley bus (or 'trackless tram') travelling along the Thorndon - Kaiwharawhara route. Note that at this time the area was known as 'Kaiwarra'.
By the mid-1920s the rising popularity of motor vehicles and public transport had nearly replaced the need to travel by horse, though a sign on the side of the road still displays a notice for horse-drawn traffic.
Some work appears to be happening along the Thorndon Esplanade; this is likely the early stages of reclamation that would build upon the works already carried out by the Wellington Manawatu Railway Company some decades earlier.
