Charles Haggarty Gillespie

Print taken from a carte-de-visite produced by portrait photographers Wrigglesworth & Binns. The company was established in 1874, at which point Gillespie (pictured) would have been in his early forties. The true date of the photograph remains unconfirmed. 

Charles Gillespie arrived in New Zealand from Scotland in 1842 and remained here for most of his life. Notably he managed the Tinakori Road hotel Shepherds' Arms from the early 1870s until his death in 1897.
