Children's Library Tiles

Description

Ceramic tiles depicting the story of 'This Little Piggy' on a gas fireplace in the Children's Library at the Central Library. The tiles had come from the 'original' 1893 Municipal Library and relocated to the 1940 library on Mercer Street (now the City Art Gallery).

This photograph was taken in 1981 shortly before the Children's Library was relocated from the ground floor to the basement. During this process the fireplace was dismantled and the tiles framed for display downstairs, as visible in this photo.

The tiles were moved once again into the new Central Library which opened in 1991.
