This photograph was sent to the Wellington Public Library in 1988 as a donation from Miss Catharine Haines in Lancaster, UK. The image is one of a set taken by a distant relative on their holiday to New Zealand in 1905. The donor wrote that the relative (and therefore the photographer) was likely a cousin named Evelyn Haines.
The photograph itself was taken on Lambton Quay near Grey Street. An electric tram is travelling towards Willis Street.
