Plan of the Magnificent Suburb of Miramar [1902]

A bill from 1902 advertising the sale of housing lots by auction subdivided from the former estate of  James Crawford in the south-west corner of Miramar. The sale was advertised shortly before the Miramar Borough Council came into existence and the tramline from Wellington was extended to the suburb which encouraged property development in the area. Note a number of street name changes occurred after this map was produced; what is shown as "Edward Street" became Stone Street, "Alexandra Street" became Hobart Street and "York Street" became Chelsea Street. "King's Road" as shown on the map was never fully formed as a result of industrial development and today is a combination of Southampton Road, Portsmouth Road and an service road off Stone Street. The name changes occurred in 1924 as the amalgamation of Miramar in Wellington City in 1921 resulted in confusing street name duplication across the city.
