Photograph taken above The Terrace facing south-east. It would have been taken from around the site of the current Clifton Terrace.
Small houses line the western side of the street with backyards that lead down into a valley. This valley is now the site of the Wellington Urban Motorway.
In the distance the Manners Street Wesleyan (Methodist) Church is visible. It was opened in 1868, only to be destroyed by fire a decade later in 1879.
