Oliver Noel Gillespie (1883 - 1957) was a poet, essayist and editor of the first published anthology of New Zealand short stories (1930). He originally became a lawyer after graduating with an LLB from Victoria University but this was to be a short-lived career after he was charged in 1913 of misappropriating trust funds he was supposed to have been administering. He subsequently worked in the cinema trade, became vice-president of the Theatre Owners Association, was active in broadcasting, repertory theatre, PEN (the NZ Society of Authors) and was one of the founding members of the NZ Literary Fund Committee.
