Stafford Byrne was born in 1901 in Kumara, Westland, as Percival Stafford Byrne. He was an actor and writer who later moved to England to continue his career where he was best known for his work during the pioneering days of British television drama. Programmes he was involved with included BBC Sunday Night Theatre (1950), Sands of the Desert (1960) and Emergency Ward 10 (1957). He was married to the English stage and film actress Barbara Leake (1903 - 1991). He died in 1976 in Chichester, Sussex, England.
