Wellington Jewish Community : a historical survey

The brochure was published to mark the 100th anniversary of the Beth-El synagogue on The Terrace in 1970 though the origins of the Jewish community in Wellington go back to 1840 and the earliest days of European settlement. This publication also marked a new phase of the community as the Terrace Synagogue (the second to be built on the same site at 128 The Terrace) was expected to be demolished and replaced with a new Jewish Community Centre then under construction in Webb Street (Te Aro) at the time of printing.
