An National Party election pamphlet mailed to households following the announcement of a snap election called by the Prime Minister Sidney ("Sid") Holland. The election was called a year early in 1951 to try and give Holland a mandate to respond strongly to industrial action which was impacting the economy. The election also distracted attention away from rising inflation which could have become an election issue had parliament run to its full three-year term. The Labour Party under Walter Nash tried to walk a moderate line between striking workers, the establishment and the general public but ended up displeasing all sides and National was returned with an increased majority.
