Published exactly two months after the 1951 dispute began, this issue of the New Zealand Transport Worker uses humour and satire to raise their concerns about the emergency regulations put in place by the government which prevented the publishing of any opinion in support of the waterside workers. Being the official newspaper of the national body to which the Wellington Waterside Worker's Union was affiliated to, this issue comes as close as possible to being 'illegal' without stepping over the line. The title of the front page feature article alludes to the fact that an article about how to grow tomatoes could be deemed illegal under the emergency regulations as it would be supporting striking workers feed their families which was then against the law.
