The former 'Magazine Room' in the 'old' Wellington Central Public Library in Mercer Street shortly before it opened in 1940. This was a mezzanine level directly above the lecture hall which was later used as an art exhibition space before becoming a general non-fiction lending area. Following the conversion of the library into the City Art Gallery in 1993, the mezzanine level was removed and today this area forms part of the west gallery on the ground floor of the City Art Gallery.
