Note that the author's name which is given on the cover as Christopher Penn was the pseudonym of the Wellington journalist and historian, Pat Lawlor. Similar to his classic book Old Wellington Days, this work is based around diary entries that Lawlor kept of his regular visits to St Gerard's as a practicing Catholic living in the Mt Victoria area.
