The 'Dolly Varden' rowing skiff off Clyde Quay

The Wellington Rowing Club's rowing skiff, the Dolly Varden. The crew on-board are  W Moore (bow), W Hearn (no 2), W Walker (no 3), H Woods (stroke) who won the inter-provincial championship in 1876. Built in London, the 'Dolly Varden' was the first outrigger in New Zealand to have sliding seats; a technical innovation which massively increased a boat's potential speed and power. In the background is the original Clyde Quay Hotel indicating that the stretch of water where the boat is pictured has since been reclaimed and is now land.
