The house on the right (corner of Karori Road and Lancaster Street) was indicated on the original print and in publication as being the site of the former Karori Stockade though other information indicates this was in fact located along what is today Marsden Avenue. The stockade was erected on land owned by a Mr. Chapman in the 1840s as a rallying-place and refuge for the surrounding settlers in the event of conflict with Maori but was never used as such.
