Queens Wharf as photographed from Customhouse Quay c. 1880s looking east towards Mt Victoria. Smoke from the funnel of a steam-powered vessel can be seen on the left. During this period, 'steamers' were used for short-haul internal journeys with some larger steam-powered vessels able to cross the Tasman but sailing vessels remained dominant, particularly for long-distance travel.
