Birds, Sheree Pattison

The Department of Justice commissioned students from the 1992 Wellington Polytechnic Course of Contemporary Māori design to provide designs for glass panelling on the entrances to various courtrooms in the building.

Featured in this design are the two birds, tirairaka and pukeko./ The characteristic movements of both birds are adopted in Māori dance. These movements are considered to be challenging ones in their flitting and cheeky actions.
