Second United States Marine Division Memorial

New Zealand / American Association (original),
US Marine Association, Returned Services Association, Wellington Harbour Board (replacement).

This plaque was erected by the New Zealand / American Association Inc. This memorial was erected 1987 to replace the original built in 1955. Rededicated in 1988. The US Marine Corps arrived at this quay in May 1942 and left from here to serve in the Pacific Theatre of War. To the people of NZ - the 2nd Marine Division Association United States of America 1951.

Images show the Memorial in the original location on Aotea Quay. It was later moved to Frank Kitts Park in 2000.
