TitleThe Wellington Motorists' HandyguidePublisherPublisher unknown; Printed by W. J. CrawfordDate 1930sDescription
Motorists' guide to driving and owning a vehicle, presumed to be printed in the 1930s. Issued to 'all car owners', this booklet was also produced as other editions for distribution in Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin.
The Handyguide includes basic instructions for operating a car, including some road rules. At this time traffic enforcement around the country was minimal and dependent on local governments; the New Zealand Government did not take over enforcement until 1937 with newly-appointed traffic officers. A separate section is dedicated to the "lady-driver", who is presumed to not need any of the technical knowledge found throughout the rest of the book.
