A brief history and overview of Wellington published very early in the 20th Century. It describes Wellington as a commercial hub full of promise; a fine example of a successful city in the English colonies. It highlights city amenities, parks and particularly the modern infrastructure such as electric street lighting and "the best drainage scheme in the colony".
Text for the second half of the book was taken from the 1855 publication Te Ika a Maui by Reverend Richard Taylor. It focuses heavily on traditional Māori methods of agriculture and food preparation.
