Downstage Theatre: "Awatea"

Theatre programme for Downstage's production of Awatea by Bruce Mason. The play featured Inia Te Wiata (Ngāti Raukawa) as Werihe Paku and George Henare (Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Hine) as his son Matiu Paku. Henare later played the part of Werihe in the 2012 production of Awatea with the Auckland Theatre Company.

The 1968 production by Downstage Theatre was performed at the Wellington Town Hall, presumably to cater to larger audiences than their usual venue at Cambridge Terrace would allow.
