TitleJ.C. Williamson: "Our Miss Gibbs"PublisherN.Z. Programme Co.Date 1911Place of originWellingtonDescription
A Wellington Opera House programme from 1911 detailing the upcoming performances of Our Miss Gibbs. The show ran for thirteen nights beginning on the 11th of October.
1911 is notable for being the first time New Zealanders participated in a nationwide referendum. While the question had already been proposed locally since 1894, voters would now be asked if they wanted 'Continuance' (as opposed to 'No Licence'), which referred to the licensing of hotels and alcohol stores in the voter's electorate, as well as whether they supported National Prohibition. The inside cover of this theatre programme includes an advertisement (creator unknown) asking patrons to vote against the harsher laws.
