An unpublished manuscript researched and written in 1952 by Mary Ronnie as part of her post-graduate studies at the NZ Library School in Wellington. In 1976 she returned to the capital city after c. 20 years of living in Dunedin to become the first female National Librarian of New Zealand. She later became Auckland City Librarian before moving to Melbourne to become the Head of Department and Acting Professor of the Graduate Department of Librarianship, Archives and Records at Monash University.
