Booklet published to celebrate the Proclamation Day of Porirua achieving the status of a city, Saturday, 2nd October, 1965.
Prior to this time, Porirua sat within the Makara County area until it became a borough in its own right in 1961. In 1965 the population exceeded 20,000 which made it eligible for 'city status'; thus the Porirua City Council was established with Whitford Brown as the first Mayor.
This book includes comments from Whitford Brown as well as Henry May (M.P.) and prominent businessmen.
