TitleA Brief History of My LifeAuthor/ContributorJoan Beere Gordon (1911 - 2000)Date writtenc. 1980sPlace of originWellingtonDescription
The unpublished autobiography of Joan Estelle Gordon (née Beere). Born in Wellington in 1911, she was adopted and brought up by her maiden aunt, the notable dance teacher, Estelle Girda Beere. Joan learnt to dance under the tutelage of her adopted mother, became a celebrated professional dancer and performed around the world during the inter-war period. This undated manuscript was likely written around the 1980s and then deposited in the Wadestown Library (Joan and her husband Alan Gordon resided in the suburb). A small selection of photographs were included with the typescript and have been attached at at the end of this digitised version along with an obituary which was published in the Evening Post following her death in August 2000.
