Established in 1891 as an alternative to The Wellington Club, 'the Wellesley' operated until 2014 when the club was voluntarily disestablished due to a declining membership. The club's neo-Georgian building designed by William Grey Young was converted into a boutique hotel.
C. A. L (Charles Archibald Lawrence) Treadwell (1889 – 1966) was a notable soldier, military historian and a two-term Wellington City Councillor from 1947 to 1953.
